Bank earnings set the tone
Bank of America fell 4.3% before the bell after a weak quarterly report. Regulators piled on too, with a $1.2B Treasury penalty tied to anti-money-laundering failures.
State Street dropped 6.4% following third-quarter results. Adjusted earnings of $3.69 per share squeaked past the $3.67 consensus, while revenue of $4.004B landed short of the $4.028B analysts wanted.
Morgan Stanley came in ahead of Wall Street forecasts for the quarter, one of the few bank prints to clear the bar cleanly.
BlackRock also reported Wednesday morning, part of the fresh batch of quarterly earnings from the financial sector that framed the session.
Fastenal slid 5.3% after its own quarterly numbers landed.
Chips and products move the rest
ASML rose 1.5% in premarket trading after beating on earnings and lifting its annual forecast for the third time in 2026. The Dutch lithography maker pointed to continued AI-driven demand for its machines.
Liquidia surged ~46.7% before the bell after settling litigation, lifting a legal overhang that had hung over its inhaled therapy.
Biomea Fusion sank 28.6% in premarket trading after releasing Phase 1 data for BMF-650, its oral GLP-1 candidate.
Enovix climbed 10% after landing a large order for its battery technology.
GameStop gained 1.9% after chief executive Ryan Cohen added to his personal stake, a move the meme-stock crowd tracks closely.
Alibaba moved higher after unveiling new AI glasses, extending its consumer hardware push into wearables.
Apple was in focus after launching HomeView, a new smart-home hub product.
Skydance dropped 16.3% before the bell, the steepest fall among larger names moving lower Wednesday.
Hewlett Packard Enterprise fell 3.8%, adding to a 2% decline on Tuesday. Dell Technologies slipped 3.1% alongside it.
Anthropic sits outside public markets for now, though the AI developer is set to share financial results with institutional investors later Wednesday, a rare look at its books. Traders are watching the September inflation print above all, with the rest of the bank earnings calendar rolling through the week.
