Expedia expanded its One Key loyalty program on Oct. 8, giving Gold and Platinum members free airport lounge access when a booked flight is delayed 90 minutes or more.
The perk runs through the LoungeKey network, which includes operators like The Club, Escape Lounges, Plaza Premium, and Aspire.
Gold members are the new addition here, joining Platinum, who already had the benefit. Travelers have to register their flights at least 24 hours before departure.
Up to nine travelers on the same itinerary qualify, and Expedia issues LoungeKey passes through its app, email, and SMS.
When no lounge or alternative airport experience is available, each registered traveler gets $20 in OneKeyCash instead.
Alternative experiences can include participating airport bars, restaurants, and sleep pods.
The benefit covers flights booked through Expedia US and is a pilot that ends Dec. 31, 2027.
CLEAR pricing now depends on status tier
Expedia is selling CLEAR+ memberships at $129 for Platinum members, $179 for Gold and Silver, and $209 for Blue, against a standard price of $219 per year.
The partnership was first announced in May.
Stacked with an American Express Platinum statement credit, a couple's annual membership can land at $35, or $90 less than enrolling at the standard price and adding a spouse.
The catch sits in the terms, since the offer is limited to first-time CLEAR+ enrollees.
Existing CLEAR members can't link their Expedia account to cut their renewal price, the way an airline status deal would let them.
Flight rewards got cut to pay for it
Expedia removed the 0.2% reward on standalone flight bookings as part of the move toward higher-tier benefits.
The trade pushes value toward members who already book enough to hold Gold or Platinum status, and away from occasional bookers.
The third new perk is automatic price drop protection for Gold and Platinum members booking eligible flights in the app.
If the fare falls before departure, Expedia refunds the difference in OneKeyCash for future eligible travel, not cash.
The company frames the lounge benefit as a pilot while it evaluates member engagement.
Online travel agencies compete on perks because switching costs are near zero, and a lounge pass during a delay is a cheap way to keep a booking from migrating to an airline site.
The signal for investors is where Expedia is spending its loyalty budget, which is on the frequent travelers who book the most and are most likely to leave.
