Apple released iOS 27 this week with Siri AI, a long-delayed assistant overhaul available only on newer Apple Intelligence devices starting with iPhone 15 Pro.
The update works on iPhones as old as the iPhone 11, but the headline AI tools require newer hardware, creating a clearer split inside Apple’s installed base.
Siri AI can search personal context across messages, emails, photos, and onscreen content, while the Camera app can answer questions about objects in view.
The assistant also gets a dedicated app with conversation history, giving Apple a more direct answer to standalone chatbot apps.

Apple said Siri AI is rolling out in beta in English, with French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish support coming in October across its platforms.
The company said the assistant can answer questions about what’s on screen, take systemwide app actions, and use iCloud to sync chat history privately.
Apple also said some server-side Apple Intelligence features will face daily usage limits, with expanded access available for a fee in the future.

Apple also added stronger child safety controls, including website approval through Ask to Browse and updated Screen Time tools for schedules and app limits.
Performance upgrades broaden the release beyond AI, with Apple citing up to 30% faster app launches and up to 80% faster AirDrop transfers.
