Rockstar Spent Years Trying to Remove GTA 6 Weapon Wheel
Rockstar Games developers spent months or years trying to replace the iconic weapon wheel in Grand Theft Auto 6, testing alternative user interface designs like trays and webs before finally reverting to the traditional wheel.
According to Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier and co-studio head Rob Nelson, the team wanted a more realistic loadout system inspired by Red Dead Redemption 2 rather than letting players carry an unlimited arsenal.
In the final weapon system, players are restricted to carrying a pistol, two long-range weapons, and a melee weapon on their person at any given time.
To store additional armaments beyond the limited on-person loadout, players will use the trunk of their vehicles, mirroring the horse storage mechanic from Red Dead Redemption 2.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled to launch on November 19 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S, with a potential PC release in early 2027.
