United Says Travelers Are Going Solo More and More — Here’s What To Know

Whether you have a Valentine or not, United wants you to forget the holiday that shall not be named and start shopping for your next solo vacation ahead of National Plan a Solo Vacation Day on Mar. 1, 2025. And while that’s as fake and corporate a holiday as Valentine’s Day, United wants flyers to know that it’s lovely to go alone.
- Solo travel has mostly been driven by Gen Zers and Millennials, who are staying single longer, not waiting on friends or family to see the world with them, and seeking out experiences over tangible products.
- United found that Google searches for “solo travel” skyrocketed 223% over the last year, while the company recorded its largest crop of solo travelers in history — with 5% more trips taken YoY in 2024.
You are now free (to book a seat in the cabin): Don’t have a destination in mind? United wants to help you find one with a refreshed interactive map feature, as well as a new AI-powered trip planning feature in its digital magazine Hemispheres. Both resources might help travelers find “just ‘cause” reasons to travel, with details on destinations to visit, places to eat and stay, and must-see sights.
