Planning A Trip? Here’s When To Go.

If a vacation (or two or three) is a New Year’s resolution, then let your resolve start spending (and traveling, for that matter). According to The New York Times’ Frugal Traveler columnist Elaine Glusac, deals on hotels and airfares are easy to find during “off-peak” seasons and “dead weeks” — like… right now. You just have to plan a little.
- January and February are considered the cheapest time to travel, with airfares and hotel rooms 15% and 45% less than summer rates, according to Expedia.
- You could also score big savings during travel lulls — like the first week of March, the last week of April, the end of August, and between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
How can I find the best time to go? From region to region, peak travel seasons may vary, but they generally align with better weather — meaning that summer is a hot time (literally) to fly. You can get a better idea of when peak travel is by using a service like Google Flights, which shows “when to visit” for less crowds and lower prices.
