Kudos Uses AI To Negotiate or Cancel Bills — A Sign of How New Tech Could Backfire on Businesses

Businesses swear that AI will transform everything — mostly in ways that benefit them. What they probably aren’t thinking about is all the ways it could backfire. A new tool from Kudos, a personal finance product we highlighted last year, purports to use AI to level the playing field with companies by negotiating your bills or cancelling services on your behalf.
- Kudos recently rolled out AI bill negotiation in its app for Premium plan customers — starting with web, email, and chat cancellations or negotiations.
- However, Kudos is taking it a step further by adding a phone-based option, where an AI agent will call to negotiate or cancel your plan entirely.
Kudos CEO Tikue Anazondo told us: “Most people overpay on bills because companies rely on friction to protect their margins. We built an AI agent that doesn’t get tired. It makes the call, negotiates within your existing plan by default, and you keep 100 percent of what it saves.” There is a catch: Kudos can’t call certain industries yet — like finance or insurance — which “refuse” AI interactions. Companies love to say the “future is coming”, but it sure feels like it’s taking them a long time.
