BYD Accelerates in the EV Market with New 5-Minute Charging Breakthrough

The race to refuel electric vehicles has just hit warp speed. Chinese automaker BYD sent its stock soaring to an all-time high Tuesday after unveiling groundbreaking technology that promises to charge EVs in roughly the same time it takes to fill a gas tank. The company’s shares jumped as much as 6% in Hong Kong trading, bringing its year-to-date gains to over 50% and pushing its market capitalization to $160B — more than Ford, General Motors, and Volkswagen combined.
Charging ahead of competition: Independent analyst Lei Xing described the advancement as “out of this world” and potentially “heartbreaking” for BYD’s foreign competitors. The technology debuts next month in BYD’s Han L sedan and Tang L SUV models, starting at ~$37K — a price point Western automakers can only dream of matching. This innovation directly addresses one of the most significant barriers to EV adoption — charging time — and could potentially eliminate the compromise between convenience and sustainability that has hampered widespread EV adoption.
