American Express Opens Airbnb Booking Through Amex Travel Portal

American Express added more than 1M Airbnb listings to its travel portal on Oct. 22, letting US cardholders book stays through AmexTravel.com and the Amex Travel app.

Consumer and Business Platinum cardholders earn 5 Membership Rewards points per dollar on prepaid Airbnb bookings made through Amex Travel.

Most other eligible Membership Rewards cards earn 2 points per dollar, while Classic Green cardholders keep earning 3 points per dollar when booking directly with Airbnb.

Bookings start on a dedicated Homes tab, then move into Airbnb's own search experience, and guests manage the stay, messaging, and cancellations on Airbnb.

The $600 credit gets a new home and a new rule

Amex renamed the Platinum card's $600 Hotel Credit the Lodging Credit, still split into two $300 semiannual statement credits.

It now covers prepaid Airbnb Luxe stays of two nights or more, alongside Fine Hotels + Resorts and The Hotel Collection bookings.

Booking a qualifying prepaid Luxe stay also unlocks up to $250 in statement credits for eligible Airbnb Experiences, usable through the end of that calendar year. The catch arrives Jan. 1, 2027, when every use of the Lodging Credit will require a stay of at least two nights.

One-night Fine Hotels + Resorts stays had been the easiest way to burn a $300 installment, and they'll no longer count, though the program's breakfast and late-checkout perks remain.

Whether the swap is worth it depends on Luxe prices

Luxe is a small slice of Airbnb's inventory, and nights often start around $1K or more, so a $300 credit may not stretch far.

Cheaper options exist. One Gatlinburg, Tennessee, Luxe home priced at $874 for two nights would drop to $574 after the credit.

Airbnb Experiences range from roughly $10 walking tours to private activities costing several hundred dollars, with no minimum spend to trigger the credit.

Both the Platinum and Business Platinum carry an $895 annual fee, so the credits only pay off if cardholders actually use them.

Amex frames the move as giving cardholders more choice.

"Travel is personal and where our Card Members choose to stay is personal."

Howard Grosfield, American Express

Amex Travel already carried more than 3.4K Fine Hotels + Resorts and Hotel Collection properties before the deal.

Cardholders still holding a 2026 credit can use it on a one-night luxury hotel stay until the rule changes.
